Daniel Boone was a man....

Problem: My great-grandfather was a notorious liar.

I have to show you my resume - I know that, even though I don't really like talking about myself. I will tell you that I'm a native of Louisville, the grandson of Italian immigrants on my mother's side, and I descended from countless generations of Kentuckians on my father's side. My great grandfather even claimed to be a direct descendent of Daniel Boone. (I've learned over time that most all old Kentucky families claim some kind of kinship to Daniel Boone, and that my great grandfather was a notorious liar besides). My dear wife, Caroline, is a native of Lac St. Jean, Quebec, Canada. We met while both of us were living in Germany. We don't have any kids, unfortunately. If we did, I probably wouldn't be doing this.

Solution: Assert that lying is not an inherited trait...

...and list a short resume:

1980: Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Louisville.

1980-1983: Engineer, McDonnell-Don't-Call-Me-Boeing-Douglas in St. Louis, working on cruise missile guidance and control, radar altimeters, and strategic planning systems.

1983-1992: Still employed by McDonnell Douglas, but I moved to Stuttgart, Germany to be a cruise missile technical advisor to the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and NATO at the Headquarters of the U.S. European Command and at NATO Military Headquarters in Mons, Belgium.

1992-1994: Engineer, secure communications systems, McDonnell-Douglas in Falls Church Virginia and the U.S. European Command's Joint Analysis Center at RAF Molesworth, England.

1994-present: Founder and owner,  Engineering Data Corporation, a Louisville-based software and database design firm.

You can read a lengthier bio on my company's website, if you wish. But I wouldn't bother; we've all got more important work to do. Here I am again in lawyer-recommended bullet form:

• Louisville native, U of L engineering graduate, local businessman, Democrat for 32 years.

Spent ten years working at major U.S. military commands centers, worked on cruise missile guidance systems, knows how the U.S. Department of Defense operates.

• Knows how to strengthen our economy: Started his own Information Technology consulting firm here in Louisville - His company derives 97% of its revenue from sources outside of Kentucky. It’s the kind of company that Louisville needs thousands more of.

• Will help push the STAR program to clean up Rubbertown. -- A trained engineer with extensive experience in the chemical industry.

• Wants to save the heart of our city. Only congressional candidate who supports the 8664 initiative, a plan that would remove I-64 from downtown and build a first-class public transportation system for our commuters.

• Wants real campaign and ethics reform – Only candidate who refuses to accept money from political action committees (PACs).

He can defeat Anne Northup in November. But he will do it without PAC money, and he will do it without negative advertising, because he is a voter like us who is sick of politics as usual.
